The mission of Business and Ecology Consulting's Environmental Services Division is to meet the environmental planning and natural resource management needs of Southern California government agencies and businesses by providing a "one stop shop" for the very best environmental scientists, technicians, managers, and educators.  Business and Ecology Consulting's partners use their extensive networks of ecology professionals to create teams of independent environmental, biological, and ecological consultants customized for each project's requirements.  Many of these consultants already hold "take" permits from the California Department of Fish and Game or the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Representative services offered by Business and Ecology Consulting include the following, and more!

  • General and focused surveys of southern California plant and wildlife species.
  • Wildfire ecology, recovery, and property risk reduction strategies.
  • Local climate change impacts, mitigation, and adaptations.
  • Wetland delineations, permit applications, and monitoring.
  • Natural resource planning, mapping (GIS), management, and education.
  • Environmental planning documents and permits.
  • Strategic and science-based approaches and research designs.
  • Professional project management: planning, executing, controlling, and closure.
  • High quality technical reports for projects and properties, tailored to each customer's standards.

Dr. Anne S. Fege's special interests and experiences have led to many local projects, including three currently benefiting clients and other interested individuals and organizations:

LIVING WITH WILDFIRE:

As Southern California experiences another drought and possibly a “severe” fire season, we ask, “how can we prepare for wildfires and prevent property losses?”  Learn how how to reduce property risks, habitat losses, and costs. This 4-hour course focuses on reducing wildfire property risks, sustaining natural environments, and minimizing maintenance costs, and is suitable for homeowners, landscape contractors, architects, real estate professionals, insurance agents, business owners, and property managers. Click on WILDFIRE to learn more.

CLIMATE CHANGE IN SAN DIEGO

Global climate change has finally become “real” to businesses and politicians, following scientists have believed the atmospheric, oceanographic, and ecological data for at least a decade.  Now we ask, “How will our climate change?  What does it mean for San Diego’s ecology and economy?   What should we expect from our business and community leaders?  What can and should we do, as individuals?  How will that matter?”  Read the Earth Times article, April 2007, by Anne S. Fege and Phil Pryde ,  http://www.sdearthtimes.com/et0407/et0407s2.html.

SAN DIEGO PARTNERS FOR BIODIVERSITY

This informational, network-style group of has met monthly since April, 2000, and more than 75 local projects and issues have been profiled at “Partners” meetings.  Discussions have led to the San Diego County Plant Atlas Project, www.sdplantatlas.org, the San Diego Fire Recovery Network, www.sdfrn.org; and other cooperative efforts.  Meetings are held monthly (date varies), at 7:30 a.m.; include a 20-minute presentation on a San Diego subject; and are attended by 25-30 conservation biologists from agencies, academia, consulting firms, and non-profits.  Contact Anne Fege (afege@sdnhm.org) for further information, or click here for a synopsis of the seminar series.
